Odyssea

Odyssea

My other creations

Context

For the mobile app design course, I had to create models for an interactive museum on a theme of my choice. I couldn’t come up with any ideas for a standard art museum, so I created Odyssea, a name that refers to the long and tumultuous voyages of the great navigators.

The compass rose appears in many forms across the app. It is used for the logo, but also for the plans of the museum and its rooms, each of which is a branch of the rose.

The colors

Beige tones are used to create a parchment-like effect, which was widely used at the time, particularly in cartography. The dark blues evoke the depth and immensity of the oceans. The red adds contrast and reminds us of the dangers of these expeditions.

In reference to navigation, I chose to draw the navigators’ route (in this case, Magellan’s) on a world map. Each of the museum’s 8 rooms (the 8 points of the compass rose) tells the journey of a great navigator through 8 key events, symbolised by red circles. The red dot represents the event the user is currently consulting.

The texts and the illustrations

The fonts used for the biographies and the different events once again remind us of parchment.

The illustrations have also been stylised to mimic the drawings that used to appear in the journals kept by some sailors to recount their journeys.
